I just found out I placed 24th on the eligibility list. Only the top 20 scores go on to take the physical test.
I'm really sick of failing.

I wouldn't worry about it too much the reason why people do fail is too make them better the next time. If you really want it, then you will get it it might take longer but at least you can say u tried and Ill try again Good luck

Hey everyone. I made that post last night after finding out about my results of the inteview/test score ranking. I was a little let down by the outcome. I thought I would certainly make the next round of the selection process.
It probably seems obvious to most of you, but I think it's important for me to write what's becomming clear to me: It's not enough to simply meet the qualifications for the position. There are so many people trying to get these jobs that an applicant must blow away the competition. That's the bottom line. I'll be waiting forever if I try to barely scrape by.
Basically, I think I should take a few months off from applying to beef up my resume, dramatically improve my fitness level, and pick up some special skills. I'm thinking of studying a second language and getting certified for CPR or other lifesaving technioques.
I'd appreciate some advice from the board on which skills I should develop. What's hot right now? What are recruiters looking for in a candidate? What is it that will make them say, "Let's hire this one"?
Thanks for your help and support.

Don't give up. Beef up your resume while applying. Take some classes....learn Spanish......I found out that bi-lingual police officer are needed desperately since spanish is becoming the primary language. I happen to speak spanish a little skill I pick up while stationed in Zaragoza Spain. I was totaly submerged into the language and basically I didn't want to starve so I learned very fast. I have even been told that I have their accent. Point is I been thru about 5 processes in 11 years and I still haven't found what I'm looking for in a police department. I've also been hired 3 times and placed on the eligibility list . I'm waiting on the call back now from the last one. I decided that I was tired of being FAT FAT FAT. I was tired of being tired all the time and my health was getting bad. My main motivation is the police department. After losing about 55 pounds I realize that I'm not doing it for them, I'm doing it for myself and if it helps me be a better officer then so be it. So you too can better yourself and better your situation and in the long run if you don't ever make it on the force then you'll at least be around to apply ninety times. They will be tired of seeing your face ;D. Point is don't give up, don't be down because things happen but persistance will prevail Good Luck

one thing that i noticed help me pass the interview was that i knew what i wanted to do witen the police department, one thing that scored points was that I told them that i wanted to work towards becoming a detective, and joining a task force like the REACT task force which in our area is the cybercrime task force. Maybe you should look further into what you want to do in that department and tell them what you are really interested in doing in there dept. I know everyone has a differnt area they want to move into after becoming a police officer, but let them know what you want to do and why. Also one thing that caught there eye every time i mentioned it in one of my interviews, was when i told them that i was already signed up to go to a police academy and that no matter what the outcome of my testing i still intended on going threw with it. Those are just some things that have worked for me in the interviews i've been on.
