I'm curious about the kind of experiences and backgrounds we can expect to see from RCMP cadets and hopefuls. This might inspire others to apply who think that they don't come from the "right" background.
For the pst few years I have been driving a tank truck in the oil field in Saskatchewan, I have ran my own company doing new construction and home renovations, have lived in centers like Calgary and Edmonton, but grew up on the farm and have lived in small towns most of my life.
I just thought it might be nice to hear about some of the diverse people that this job attracts and the varried backgrounds and experiences that noone but the recruiters usually get to see.

33 year old male. Operated a family business for 11 years. Worked in administration for roughly 3 years. Deferred from Calgary, panel interview went fine, poly went great, all interviewers were confident I would be in. Many officers were confident I would be in as well. Disclosed ALL information since day one. Recruiting didn't even perfrom reference checks with work or family, friends. Recruiting even asked for police officer references and even those officers were not contacted. Applied with Calgary for almost 3 years. 5 months after the interview they send me a generic letter. CPS officers that supported me tried to find a reason and are baffled by recruiting. They could not find out anything. Applied with the RCMP while in the process with Calgary. RCMP have conditionally gave me a offer pending medical clearance. Exact same thing that happened to my brother, except he had no incidents that he needed to disclose. He is now in training with the RCMP at depot.

25 yrld female college diploma - court/tribunal/mediation degree - good ol psych & soc. currently work for muny force waiting for my call with the Mounties....it'll be a year on September 30th since putting in my application. It has been a long wait, although not as long as some. My background was delayed by about 2 months because I am originally from Ontario and it had to go back there...anyway, any day for my call...it's still in departmental security.

:)From what I've seen and experienced first hand you will find cadets with zero life experience to those with a multitude of experience. You will wonder how some even got to Depot - if you want to become a MOUNTIE, you will no matter what your background (law abiding is helpful). Good luck to everyone! Me, a supervisor of 55 in logistics for 8 years. I will say that the post by 'determined' sounds unjustly familiar.... good luck to YOU. Go with the best, go with the RCMP!

 The world is full of stupid people...hell, if it wasn't for stupid people we wouldn't need any cops. Yes they deffered me...again...but shit happens. I've dealt with it and moved on. If they want to hold things from 8-10 years ago against me, that's their call. I'm actually glad I was deffered, as the RCMP isn't quite the place my starry applicant eyes thought it was. Guess I better change my handle ....
