Glenn I apologize if you think I called you a jerk. I didn't and I didn't mean for you to take it that way. :'(I'm sure you as well as all of us have at one time or another met a cop that we thought was more then a little extreme. The original question was would you do if you pulled the mayor over and smelled liquor on his breath. It just so happens someone hypothically posted the question about giving dear old mom a ticket. 8)Police Officers have the POWER to make all those neat decisions. I believe in Karma, positive begets positive and negative begets negative and the freedom to choose.

Drakor None taken, :)I was just trying to view my stand in a situation. To be honest I would let ma go. But I still would be prepared to write her a ticket if it was extreme. 8) Now the Mayor....it would depend again on the situation. Depends if he is border line, say a 24hr suspension, I might call a cab. But if the Mayor is well over the 0.08 , I would treat him as any other DUI. I am trying not to come off as a hard ass. But I know I will be fair to people, ;Dand I know I will give some people a warning. Of course it will depend on how they are to me, as in politeness. If they are blindly being rude and obnoxious and broke the law, I will follow procedure. I know how it feels when you get pulled over and you made a mistake, it would be nice to get a warning once in a while. I will try and be the best cop that I can. I will treat people with respect and dignity. Once I have my oral interview, which is coming up soon, I will awnser the same way as I have here. I hope they will understand my opinion and respect the way I feel. There has been some great advise on this subject and I will dwell on them. Anyway, thanks for the input. Glenn 8)

glenn, the important thing to remember is that there really are no right or wrong answers, keeping common sense in mind. however there are certain answers that boards are looking for. does this mean b/c you don't tell them what they want to hear you won't get the job? not necessarily. they really like to hear your justification, and whether or not you stick to your guns. it sounds as though you are pretty strong willed. stick to what you believe is right and you will be fine . 8) junior
