I have a question regarding the hiring process in both the LAPD and LA Sheriffs Dept.
In order for you to get to the top of the list, which part of the hiring process does the LAPD base your overall scores more? Is it the Written and Oral? Is it the Written, Oral and Physical? I'm not saying that the rest of the process is not important, I just want to find out what these departments priorities are in the hiring process.
The same above questions apply to the LA Sheriffs dept as well.
Thanks in advance.

Karlmac32--Have you asked a recruiter your question? One other source to check out to see if it might answer your question, if you're not aware of it, is the LAPD web site: www.lapdonline.org/index.htmIf you don't see anything there that answers your question, I'd be willing to bet there is an email link somewhere on there to someone who probably can answer it! ;D As for the LA Sheriff, I don't have a URL address handy for them but I'd be willing to bet a similar method would apply also. Maybe there is a link to the Sheriff through the LAPD site. Hope this helps. Charlie

LAPD ranks you soley on your performance in the oral. I would recommend that you attend one of the preperation classes. The written and physical fitness are just pass or fail, no grade is given. Unfortuntily LAPD is going thru some promblems as you mave have heard with there hiring process. 96% of applicants are never offered a job. Most of the problem stems from background. Most people like myself are proud of maintaining a clean background but these people will find something. If you ever had an argument with somebody or even looked at a person the wrong way you had better disclose it. Good luck and do not get discuraged almost everone dept. is hiring!

LASO lists you in "bands" like the rest of the county positions ,i.e. highest is Band X, then down to 1,2,3 etc, the Physical agility is a pass /fail issue(LAPDs consists of balance, medicine ball,bike,steps.etc-rather NOT difficult check LASD.org for more info...(P.S. as a victim of the city of L.A.,if I had to start over again as an applicant,I'd advise LASO!!!!) ;D
